I had such a great time photographing this adorable family for Izzy's Bat Mitzvah at Ansche Chesed
Like many conservative synagogues photos aren't allowed on the sabbath so we have to do the photographs on a "rehearsal" day. I actually prefer this and offer it for free. I like having more time without all the stress so we can have fun and get the shots. Synagogue photos take less than an hour but are a big part of the story and while you might only end up using a handful of shots in the album it's  important to remember why we're all here. I love tradition and feel so privileged to document it for so many families.
Pro tip: This synagogue is old and the bimah really lacks light. You should always bring alternative light sources but also don't get too tied to the idea of doing all the synagogue shots on the bimah. Look around the venue and find your light, often times it's in places you wouldn't normally think to shoot like the hallway on the way to the bathroom...lol. Seriously though, think outside of the box and keep things interesting for your and your clients.

Oh how easy my job would be if all of my subjects were ballet dancers....
Beautiful Marielle is everything I wasn't at her age (or even now for that matter), poised, confident and graceful. Her service was held at Park Avenue Synagogue in NYC. We were lucky to get great weather in January so we managed to get some great shots in and outside of the temple. Her party was held at current at chelsea piers photos coming soon....

Pro tip: always try to find ballerina's to photograph it really makes the job easy! ;)

What can I say... I am a huge fan of this Space!!! https://www.spacenj.com/
Located in Englewood NJ it's close and easy to get to from NYC, Westchester and obviously New Jersey. This place has everything including an onsite arcade and bowling lanes!!! They also offer a surprise entrance showstopper that is truly SPECTACULAR. As a photographer it's great because Elvira Grau who is the Woman In Charge kicks ass and always throws the most amazing parties. Her work is gorgeous without being stuffy, the details are always on point and the food is mouth watering. Plus there is lots of space at Space. This may not seem like a big deal but it is huge. Having room to dance and mingle and eat and the ability to move guests from place to place is key to making a night larger than life and therefore memorable.  I cannot recommend this place enough!!!

Pro Tip: Bring your OFC setup. It's a large place so not much to bounce flash off of.

You can check out more of Elvira's work here:
