Current at Chelsea Piers NYC Bat Mitzvah!

A winter wonderland! Chelsea Piers is a wonderful, fun, unique NYC location icon and one of my favorite venues in Manhattan. Having big events in the dead of winter is tricky, you have to worry about weather and the possibility of cancelled travel plans but this party made it seem like the most desireable season of all. If only winter really looks like this! Mazel Tov to Marielle and her beautiful family!!!

I had such a great time photographing this adorable family for Izzy's Bat Mitzvah at Ansche Chesed
Like many conservative synagogues photos aren't allowed on the sabbath so we have to do the photographs on a "rehearsal" day. I actually prefer this and offer it for free. I like having more time without all the stress so we can have fun and get the shots. Synagogue photos take less than an hour but are a big part of the story and while you might only end up using a handful of shots in the album it's  important to remember why we're all here. I love tradition and feel so privileged to document it for so many families.
Pro tip: This synagogue is old and the bimah really lacks light. You should always bring alternative light sources but also don't get too tied to the idea of doing all the synagogue shots on the bimah. Look around the venue and find your light, often times it's in places you wouldn't normally think to shoot like the hallway on the way to the bathroom...lol. Seriously though, think outside of the box and keep things interesting for your and your clients.
